Web Authoring Software

Definition

Web authoring software enables users to create Web pages to host online. Many Web authoring tools use an interface similar to word processing software, minimizing the need for creators to work directly with html code.

Features

Web authoring tools range in power and complexity from very simple to highly complex.  The simplest Web editors (e.g., Google Pages, iWeb) allow for quick and efficient Web page creation, utilizing some combination of text and images.  More sophisticated editors (e.g., Adobe Dreamweaver, RapidWeaver) offer more options for Web sites, but are also more complex. A growing number of online Web authoring tools (e.g., Wix, Yola, Google Pages, etc.) make the creation and hosting of Web sites quite simple for busy teachers and students.
